Ogura spring actuated micro brake, MCNB0.02, wins the Gold Medal in the Mechanical Components Category of the LEAP Awards (Leadership in Engineering Achievement Program) sponsored by WTWH Media. WTWH Media is an American company that publishes industry publications such as Design World, Engineering.com, Fluid Power World, and EE World Online. The award ceremony was held online on October 29th. This product is a holding/emergency stop brake for ultra-small motors. When power is off, coil springs push the armature against the brake disc, generating torque. When the coil is energized, the armature is pulled to the coil, overcoming the spring force, releasing the brake. Because the brake engages even when power is off, it is used as a safety device in the event of an electrical failure, such as power outage or battery problem. This makes it useful in applications such as increasingly miniaturized robots. This is the fourth time in the past five years that Ogura received this award, and the second consecutive year that we won the Gold Award.
